Ages 3-5 years
Class ratio 1:4

Designed to help children progress and build elementary swimming and safety skills. Children are placed with instructors based on their skill levels.
Winter Swim Lessons Class Schedule

A beginning class for children who have never been in the water or are fearful of water. Students require an IFD (Instructional Flotational Device- float belt, bar bell or kick board) and/or assistance from the instructor at all times.

Children are more confident in the water, but are still considered beginners. Students still require assistance from an IFD and/or instructor but are able to swim longer distances.

This intermediate preschool class is for students who are becoming less dependent on their IFDs and instructor assistance. Students begin working on rhythmic breathing and front and back arm-alternating paddles that closely resemble front and back crawls.

The most advanced preschool class. Students are very comfortable in the water and require little assistance from an IFD. Students' strokes should look more and more like front crawl, backstroke, sidestroke, and breaststroke.

Ages 6-12 years
Class ratio 1:6

YMCA swim programs for school-aged youth stress endurance, personal safety, skill development and lifesaving techniques. Skills are assessed and children are placed with instructors in the appropriate age groups.
Winter Swim Lessons Class Schedule

A beginning class for swimmers who have never been comfortable in the water or may be uncomfortable around the water. Students in this level require assistance from an IFD (Instructional Flotation Device) or swim instructor at all times.

Students begin to refine their personal safety skills and strokes to become more efficient as they increase their endurance and overall fitness level. Students in this level are slowly being introduced to deeper water and are gradually increasing their independence.

The third level, in which students perfect the front crawl and backstroke and are introduced to the breaststroke.

This level is an intermediate class in which students refine their floating, treading and IFD skills and are introduced to new skills such as the butterfly stroke and competitive starts and turns.

Ages 7-12
Class Ratio 1:10
Students focus on competitive swimming skills and increasing endurance. At the completion of this level, students should be able to swim front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke with proper flip turns for a minimum of 100 yds, swim butterfly for 25 yds and swim a 200 yd individual medley (50 yds butterfly, 50 yds breaststroke, 50 yds backstroke, & 50 yds freestyle) with proper starts and turns.

Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 25m in breaststroke, freestyle and backstroke without stopping.

Ages 5-7
The Stroke Clinic is designed for children ages 5-7 who desire to expand their swimming experience by improving their mechanics, techniques and endurance. Each of the four competitive strikes will be practiced and refined.

Ages 13+ YEARS
Adult swim lesson participants range from the true beginner to advanced swimmers. Participants are grouped by skill level and classes are designed to fit student goals.
